Another thoughtful post, Charlie. Richard Rohr's take on "sin"--as that which distances us from God--was life-changing for me. As a child raised in a fundamentalist Christian home, I could never understand why whatever it was I'd done--taken a cookie from the jar when told no--could translate to eternal damnation. Not to say that there isn't evil out there. But I was left with nightmares and imagined terrors that sent me fleeing. It's taken decades to find my own way back.
